Bible verses about salvation

These are the verses that explain the gospel in the Bible's own words: why we need saving, what God has done in Jesus, and how to receive it. Many Christians learn them to be able to answer when someone asks what they believe. John 3:16 and Romans 6:23 are good places to start.
